Origin & History

Sepak Tekraw, a traditional Southeast Asian sport that combines agility, acrobatics, and skill, was introduced in Jharkhand in the mid-2000s. The game gradually attracted interest, and the Jharkhand State Team made its first major appearance in the 34th National Games hosted in Jharkhand in 2011. In later years, the team continued to represent the state in various national events, including the prestigious Goa National Games, which gave further exposure to players and boosted the profile of the sport in Jharkhand.

However, after the 2011 National Games, the state association remained largely inactive for a period, leading to stagnation in the promotion of the sport. To revive it, the Secretary General of the Sepaktakraw Federation of India (STFI), Shri Yogender Singh Dahiya, entrusted the responsibility of Jharkhand Sepaktakraw to a dynamic leadership team, comprising: Shri Uday Sahu – President, Shri Shivendra Nath Dubey – Secretary, Shri Manoj Sahu – Treasurer. The role of Shri Chanchal Bhattacharya, Vice President, was also crucial in guiding the association’s revival.

Revival and Development
The new leadership initiated training programmes across different levels and actively promoted the sport throughout Jharkhand. The state team regularly participated in national championships, winning medals on several occasions.Jharkhand also successfully hosted the Senior National Sepaktakraw Championship, a milestone achievement for the association.
